What Helps Us Assess the Existing Distribution?

You do not need to open the board or produce a finished specification before making contact. A clear reason for the enquiry and the information already available help us identify the safest and most useful next step.

  • Site address, board location and the surrounding environment
  • Reason for the enquiry, such as a defect, inspection finding, fit-out, expansion or new load
  • Board make, model, phase and rating if these are already known
  • Existing circuit schedule, drawings, EICR, thermal report or fault information if available

For safety, do not remove covers or enter a restricted electrical area to take photographs. A closed-board photograph, visible labels and existing records are enough to begin the conversation. A site review may still be required to verify the installation.

The Board, the Incoming Supply and Everything Downstream

A sound distribution-board decision relies on more than the enclosure itself. The incoming supply and earthing, existing condition, current and future loads, protective-device compatibility, downstream circuits and operating constraints all need to be considered together.

When should a commercial distribution board be replaced?

There is no single age at which every board must be replaced. Replacement may follow an inspection finding, damage, unsuitable or poorly maintainable equipment, inadequate capacity, a change of use, or a planned improvement to the installation. A survey helps distinguish a full replacement from a smaller remedial.
