Bridon-Bekaert

  • Client Since: 2014
  • Location: Coatbridge and Grangemouth
  • Sector: Industrial manufacturing and warehousing
  • Site type: Production facility, industrial unit, machinery areas, workshop and yard infrastructure
  • Support model: Initial setup, ongoing maintenance, upgrades, reactive repairs, testing, and decommissioning
  • Specialist elements: Machinery support, high-level works, 3 phase supplies, lighting, containment, diagnostics, and strip-out works

WB Electrical has supported Bridon, now part of Bridon-Bekaert, since 2014 across both Coatbridge and Grangemouth sites.

Our involvement has covered the full life cycle of electrical support. That includes initial setup works, ongoing maintenance, upgrades, reactive fault finding, machinery-related electrical works, statutory testing, and, at the Grangemouth site, full decommissioning works to strip the unit back and return it to the leaseholder’s agreed condition.

This is the kind of long-term industrial support role that calls for more than one-off installation capability. It needs a contractor who can adapt to changing production requirements, keep systems running, support machinery and infrastructure safely, and handle major change when a site is being reworked or closed down.

The Challenge

Industrial sites change constantly.

Production layouts evolve, machinery is upgraded or moved, welfare and support areas need power, heating and ventilation, lighting systems wear out, and faults need dealt with quickly to avoid unnecessary disruption. In an environment like this, the electrical contractor has to do more than install to a drawing. They need to work practically around real operations, real equipment, and real site pressures.

Across the Bridon sites, the work ranged from general maintenance and small alterations through to distribution upgrades, machine diagnostics, control gear replacement, high-level lighting works, yard lighting, testing, equipment supplies, and specialist power requirements. At Grangemouth, the brief later shifted again, from supporting an operational unit to decommissioning and stripping it back to the agreed handover condition.

From setup, to support, to decommissioning

We were not brought in for one isolated package of works. We supported the sites from setup and operational use through to ongoing improvement and, in one case, full decommissioning. That gives the client continuity, practical knowledge of the estate, and one contractor able to respond across very different phases of a site’s life.

Our Approach

We work in a way that suits a high-demand, high-compliance environment.

Survey and shutdown planning

Support the site as it evolves

We work around changing layouts, new equipment, production demands, and shifting priorities, helping the electrical infrastructure keep pace with the site rather than holding it back.

Neat containment and clear labelling

Solve problems practically

A lot of industrial work is not just about new installs. It is about fault finding, diagnostics, testing, repairs, replacement of worn or failed components, and making safe, reliable improvements that suit the way the site actually operates.

Test results and handover documentation

Keep work tidy and maintainable

Distribution changes, cable routes, containment, controls, and new supplies all need to be left in a condition that is clear, serviceable, and easy to work on later.

Coordination with site engineering team

Handle major change safely

Whether the task is a machine move, a high-level lighting project, a new power supply, or a full strip-out during decommissioning, safe sequencing and controlled delivery matter.

The Work In Action

Over the years, our support has typically landed in three practical chapters.

Supporting day-to-day operations

Reactive repairs, fault finding, lighting maintenance, testing, socket and heater installations, machine checks, emergency stop repairs, and general maintenance support to keep the facilities working safely.

Upgrading infrastructure and equipment

Distribution board installations, additional circuits, 3 phase supplies, yard and warehouse lighting upgrades, containment, cable runs, control gear replacement, new machine-related electrical works, and power supplies for changing operational needs.

Managing end-of-life change at Grangemouth

At the Grangemouth site, our role extended beyond operational support into decommissioning. That included stripping out services, removing redundant infrastructure, and returning the unit to the agreed condition required by the leaseholder. The attached images are strong evidence of that phase, particularly the high-level access works and the scale of the cleared industrial space.

Outcomes

The overall outcome is broad, dependable electrical support across two industrial sites with very different requirements over time.

At Coatbridge, that has meant practical long-term support for an operating facility, covering maintenance, upgrades, testing, machinery-related works, and site improvements. At Grangemouth, it included both operational support and the later decommissioning phase, where electrical services and associated infrastructure had to be removed or made safe as part of returning the building.

For the client, that means one contractor able to support the site through setup, operation, change, and closure, with the flexibility to handle both routine electrical work and more specialised industrial tasks.
