WB Electrical has supported the Scottish Ambulance Service since 1990, delivering electrical installations, planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and statutory inspections and testing across a wide and varied estate.

Many of the locations we attend are ambulance charging and repair stations, where the electrical infrastructure has to support day-to-day operations, vehicle readiness, staff welfare, security, and the safe running of site services. Across more than 184 locations and 12 contract areas, our role has been to provide dependable support, whether that is a planned upgrade, a compliance-driven repair, or an urgent callout that cannot wait.

Scottish Ambulance Service

The Challenge

Supporting a national emergency service estate is not like working on a single building or a standard commercial site. The locations are spread widely across Scotland and the work varies from straightforward maintenance through to infrastructure upgrades, fault response, testing, and improvements to live operational buildings.

Downtime has to be controlled carefully. Ambulance stations and associated facilities still need to function while works are planned, carried out, and handed back safely. Access, working at height, outdoor equipment, workshop environments, and site-specific operational pressures all add to the challenge.

At the same time, the estate continues to evolve. Distribution equipment ages, new electrical demands are introduced, welfare areas need upgraded, lighting needs maintained, and specialist equipment such as vehicle chargers, door entry systems, alarms, and workshop power supplies all require ongoing support.

From routine support to long-term estate coverage

Over time, the relationship has developed into broad, practical support across a large public sector estate. Some jobs are urgent and reactive. Others are planned improvements designed to make stations safer, more reliable, and easier to maintain. The common thread is consistency, safe delivery, and being able to respond when sites need action quickly.

Our Approach

We work in a way that suits a high-demand, high-compliance environment.

Survey and shutdown planning

Prioritise operational continuity

We work around live service environments, planning isolations, access, and sequencing carefully so critical sites can keep functioning as works progress.

Neat containment and clear labelling

Support the full estate, not just one task

Because the estate is wide ranging and the work mix is broad, our approach is flexible. We support everything from fault finding and repairs through to planned upgrades, testing, new circuits, and site improvements.

Test results and handover documentation

Deliver safely in real-world conditions

Many tasks involve workshops, vehicle areas, external services, and regular working at height. Safe access, sensible planning, and tidy delivery are part of the standard, not an extra.

Coordination with site engineering team

Leave sites maintainable

Clear installations, sensible containment, labelled circuits, and proper certification all help site teams manage systems more easily after handover.

The Work In Action

Over the years, our support has typically landed in three practical chapters.

Keeping operational sites running

Reactive repairs, fault finding, panel repairs, lighting faults, door entry issues, charger problems, and general maintenance support that helps stations and support buildings stay functional.

Upgrading infrastructure across the estate

Distribution board works, rewiring, containment, cable runs, new circuits, power for equipment, lighting improvements, and wider upgrades that improve safety and reliability.

Supporting staff, vehicles, and site services

Electrical works that directly support daily site use, including power supplies for roller doors, vehicle charging, pressure washing stations, hot water handwashing units, extract ventilation, external lighting, and welfare equipment.

Outcomes

The overall result is dependable electrical support across a dispersed and operationally important estate.

By combining planned works, reactive response, compliance support, and infrastructure improvements, WB Electrical has helped Scottish Ambulance Service locations stay operational, safer to use, and easier to maintain. A consistent contractor across multiple areas also helps with continuity, standards, and response, particularly where urgent repairs or out-of-hours attendance are required.

For the client, that means one contractor able to support a broad range of needs across day-to-day maintenance, urgent repairs, inspections, and estate improvement works.
