Share the written request, existing reports and site information. Confirm the tests, areas, equipment and reporting required, including any specialist interfaces.

Coordinate and carry out the work
Plan access, critical supplies and interruptions with the site team. Complete the agreed inspection and testing, and raise significant concerns with the nominated contact.

Explain findings and next actions
Provide the applicable records, identify limitations and distinguish immediate concerns from planned work. Repairs or further investigation are agreed separately.

For several sites, use consistent references while keeping each location’s results and outstanding actions distinct.
An insurer, landlord or auditor decides whether the evidence meets its request. We can explain the electrical records within our agreed scope.
Some inspection and testing requires the power to be switched off. Identify critical loads early and agree the interruption and return-to-service arrangements. An inaccessible or untested area must be recorded as a limitation, not presented as verified.

Choosing the right checks
We have been asked for an electrical certificate. Where do we start?
Share the exact request and existing documents. An EICR reports on an existing installation; certificates for new electrical work, emergency-lighting records and equipment test records have different purposes. We can help establish which electrical scope addresses the request.
Is electrical testing a legal requirement for businesses?
Workplace duties include maintaining electrical systems to prevent danger. Inspection and testing help establish condition, but the particular requirement depends on the premises and circumstances. An EICR records the condition of the fixed installation within its agreed scope.
How often should electrical testing be carried out?
Use the installation or equipment condition, environment, previous findings and applicable requirements to set the programme. Different checks have different intervals. There is no blanket annual PAT requirement for every appliance, and emerging defects may need attention before the next planned visit.
Can PAT or thermal imaging replace an EICR?
No. PAT concerns included electrical equipment, while thermal imaging records temperature patterns under suitable operating conditions. An EICR assesses the agreed fixed installation. These services can complement one another, with separate scopes and records.
Planning the visit
Will the power have to be switched off?
Some tests require isolation. Tell us about servers, production equipment, refrigeration, security and other critical loads. We agree access and interruptions with your team; continuing operations does not automatically make exposed live work appropriate.
How long will testing take and what affects the cost?
The tests, asset quantities, access, records and working hours determine the programme and price. Restricted areas or phased visits can add time. Confirm the included reporting, exclusions, return visits and VAT when comparing quotations.
Can you coordinate testing across several sites in Scotland?
Yes. Discuss the locations, required tests, existing reports and operating constraints. A planned programme can use consistent asset references and an agreed reporting structure, while retaining each site’s scope and findings. Attendance arrangements are agreed for the actual locations.
Findings and follow-up
What happens if an urgent defect is found?
The engineer raises significant safety concerns with the nominated site contact. Appropriate immediate measures depend on the finding and agreed authority. Urgent safety action, further investigation and planned repairs should be clearly distinguished in the follow-up.
Can WB deal with a report issued by another contractor?
Yes. We can review the observations and available evidence before defining remedial work. Additional checks may be needed to establish the repair scope. The existing report is not automatically replaced or changed when another contractor carries out repairs.
Will the records satisfy our insurer or auditor?
We provide the electrical records agreed for the work and can explain their scope and limitations. The requesting organisation decides what it accepts. Send its exact wording and deadline so gaps can be identified before attendance.
