Commercial electrical small works
Commercial Electrical Additions, Alterations and Small Works
New circuits, sockets, lighting changes, relocations and practical electrical alterations for commercial, industrial and public sector premises across Scotland.
WB Electrical reviews the existing installation, defines the required change and plans the work around access, isolation and the needs of the site.

One change or a developing works list
Start with the immediate requirement. If other electrical work is connected, we can help organise it into a clearer scope or repeat small-works programme.

A practical route for a changing site
Is Additions and Alterations the Right Service?
This service is intended for defined changes to an existing commercial electrical installation. It suits a business that needs to add capacity at the point of use, move electrical points, adapt a working area or complete a manageable list of electrical small works.
If the change affects the main distribution arrangement, involves higher-load or technically specific equipment, or forms part of a complete premises fit-out, we will direct the requirement to the more appropriate electrical route.
A good starting point when you need to:
- Add sockets, lighting points or local circuits
- Move supplies after a layout or equipment change
- Alter cable routes and local containment
- Complete several smaller electrical changes together
- Develop a repeat commercial small-works relationship
Common commercial small works
What Can WB Electrical Add, Move or Alter?
The exact work depends on the existing installation and the intended use. These are common starting points for commercial, industrial and public sector enquiries.
New Circuits and Small Power
Additional final circuits, sockets and local power points for changing workplaces, equipment and everyday site requirements.
Socket and Point Relocations
Move or add outlets, switches and connection points when desks, rooms, counters, bays or work areas are reconfigured.
Lighting Additions and Changes
Alter switching, controls and fitting positions where a layout, task area or use of space has changed.
Equipment Supplies and Isolation
Dedicated supplies and local isolation for suitable commercial equipment, subject to the equipment data and existing capacity.
Cable Routes and Containment Changes
Extend or modify cable routes, tray, basket, trunking and conduit as part of the agreed electrical alteration.
Repeat Commercial Small Works
A practical route for clients with a developing list of alterations across one site or a managed portfolio of premises.

What Helps Us Assess Your Requirement?
You do not need a finished specification before making contact. A clear description of the required change, supported by the information already available, helps us identify the right next step.
- Site address and type of premises
- Number, type and proposed location of the new or moved points
- Equipment manufacturer, model and electrical data where relevant
- Photographs, marked-up layouts or drawings if available
- Operating hours, access rules and affected work areas
- Preferred timescale and any immovable project dates
- Circuits or equipment that cannot be interrupted without planning
A site review may still be required to confirm routes, capacity, protection, access and the condition of the relevant existing installation.
When an Alteration Becomes a Wider Electrical Project
A request may begin with one new point but reveal a wider capacity, distribution or coordination requirement. Identifying that early helps avoid piecemeal work and gives the client a clearer route forward.
Distribution and Capacity
Board changes, sub-distribution and capacity work may be better handled through Distribution Boards.
Three-Phase or Technical Loads
Machinery, HVAC, plant and demanding equipment should be assessed through Specialist Power Supplies.
Complete Premises Package
A coordinated package across an entire unit or refurbishment is normally better suited to Commercial Electrical Fit-Outs.
From request to handover
How Commercial Electrical Alterations Are Planned
Even a relatively small alteration can affect safety, access and site operations. The delivery method is therefore agreed around the actual installation rather than assumed from the size of the request.
01
Understand the Change
We review what needs to move, be added or operate differently, along with the site, programme and people affected.
02
Check the Existing Installation
The relevant circuits, distribution, protection, capacity, routes and site conditions are considered before the final scope is agreed.
03
Plan Access and Isolation
Access, permits, safe isolation, working hours and any phased sequence are coordinated around the individual premises.
04
Install, Test and Hand Over
The agreed work is completed, verified and labelled, with certification and other records supplied as applicable to the scope.
A route towards recurring support
From One Alteration to a Manageable Small-Works Programme
A first enquiry may be one socket, circuit or relocated point. For facilities and operations teams, the greater value can come from having a contractor who understands the premises and can help work through a developing list of electrical changes.
Where appropriate, requirements can be grouped by site, urgency, access window or budget. Each item still needs a defined instruction and technical review, but a clearer programme can reduce repeated explanation and give the client better visibility of completed and outstanding work.
- One-off commercial small works
- Prioritised alteration lists
- Repeat work across several premises
- Progression into planned electrical maintenance where a wider ongoing requirement exists

Before you enquire
Questions About Electrical Additions, Alterations and Small Works
These answers explain the usual route. The existing installation and the specific change still need to be considered before scope, programme and cost can be confirmed.
What counts as an electrical addition or alteration?
It is work that changes an existing electrical installation rather than creating a complete new installation. Examples include adding or relocating sockets, lighting points, circuits, isolators, supplies and cable routes. The most suitable service route is confirmed once the scale and technical requirement are understood.
Can you add sockets or circuits without replacing the existing installation?
Often, but not automatically. The relevant existing circuit, distribution equipment, protection, earthing, capacity and condition need to be suitable for the proposed change. If wider work is required, we will explain that before the alteration proceeds.
Can alteration work be completed while our premises remain operational?
Frequently it can be planned around a working site. The approach depends on access, the existing installation, safe-isolation requirements and the services that must remain available. Options may include phased work, agreed shutdown periods or out-of-hours access where these are suitable and agreed.
Is three-phase or machinery power included on this page?
A straightforward equipment supply may begin as an alteration enquiry. Requirements involving three-phase loads, machinery starting characteristics, HVAC plant, variable-speed drives or more involved capacity work are normally handled through our Specialist Power Supplies service.
Can WB Electrical support a continuing list of commercial small works?
Yes. Where a client has repeat requirements, we can discuss a practical way to group, prioritise and deliver the work across one or more premises. The programme, response arrangements, authorisation route and reporting expectations should be agreed for the particular relationship.
What testing and certification will be provided?
The completed work is inspected and tested as appropriate. Electrical certification, updated circuit information, labels and other handover records are provided where they apply to the agreed scope. We confirm the intended deliverables before work begins.
Can you work from photographs, drawings or a contractor brief?
Yes. Photographs and marked-up layouts are often useful for initial review, while larger or coordinated alterations may be developed from drawings, specifications or a contractor brief. A site visit may still be needed to verify existing conditions before quotation or installation.
Which areas do you cover?
WB Electrical is based in Larkhall and supports suitable commercial, industrial and public sector work across Lanarkshire, Glasgow, the Central Belt and wider Scotland. Location, programme and project scale are considered when each enquiry is reviewed.
