This component is for defined changes to an existing electrical installation. It suits businesses that need to add or move points, extend local circuits, alter lighting or make a manageable list of electrical changes while keeping the wider installation and site operations in view.

The final scope depends on the existing installation and the intended use. WB can combine related small works into one practical package while keeping larger distribution, specialist-load and full-fit-out requirements in their own service routes.

Understand what needs to change
We review what is being added, moved or altered, the intended use, approximate quantities and locations, available drawings or photographs and any fixed project dates.

The affected circuits, distribution, protection, capacity, routes and local conditions are considered before the final alteration scope is agreed.

Plan access, isolation and handover
Working hours, permits, affected areas and safe isolation are coordinated around the premises, then the agreed work is installed, tested, identified and handed back.
Photographs and marked-up layouts are useful for an initial review, but do not remove electrical covers or enter restricted areas to obtain them. A site visit may still be needed to verify the existing installation and the proposed route.

The handover should show what changed and what was verified. The exact certificate or record depends on the work completed, so it is agreed from the actual scope rather than assumed from the word ‘small works’.

Electrical additions, alterations and small-works questions
What counts as an electrical addition or alteration?
It is a defined change to an existing installation rather than a complete new installation. Examples include adding or relocating sockets, lighting points, final circuits, isolators, local supplies and associated cable routes. The appropriate route still depends on the scale and technical requirement.
Can sockets or circuits be added without replacing the existing installation?
Often, but not automatically. The relevant existing circuits, distribution, protection, capacity, earthing and condition need to be suitable for the proposed change. If a wider upgrade is required, that should be identified before the alteration proceeds.
Can alteration work be completed while our premises remain operational?
Many jobs can be planned around a working site, but affected circuits still need a safe work and isolation plan. Phasing, shutdown periods or out-of-hours access may be considered where they suit the installation, the task and the client’s operations.
What testing and certification will be provided?
The completed work is inspected and tested as appropriate to the scope. The applicable electrical certificate, test record, circuit information, labels or other completion information is supplied where it applies to the work completed.
Can WB support a continuing list of commercial small works?
Yes. A repeat list can be grouped and prioritised by site, urgency, access window or budget, with the authorisation and reporting route agreed for the relationship. If the requirement becomes a broader ongoing maintenance programme, it can be moved into the maintenance service family.

What affects electrical small-works cost?
Quantity and type of changes, cable routes, existing circuit and distribution condition, access, working hours, isolation requirements, equipment and the testing or handover required all affect the price. A site review may be needed before the scope can be priced firmly.
The next step may be a quotation, document review or site visit. Wider distribution upgrades, specialist equipment supplies, major containment and complete fit-outs are scoped separately when that gives the work clearer responsibility and pricing.
