Start with the observations and their urgency
Know what needs attention first
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) identifies observations with different priorities. If yours is marked unsatisfactory or describes outstanding issues, we help establish what needs attention and what information is needed before quoting.
C1 and C2 findings
C1 identifies immediate danger; C2 identifies potential danger needing urgent remedial action. If danger remains, contact a competent electrician straight away. Do not wait for a routine online quotation.
Further investigation (FI)
An unresolved issue needs closer examination before its nature and repair scope can be confirmed. Arrange investigation promptly and follow the advice on your particular report.
Recommended improvements
C3 observations recommend an improvement. We distinguish these from urgent defects so you can consider them alongside site risks, maintenance priorities and other planned work.
Follow the inspecting electrician’s safety instructions. Keep isolated equipment out of service until a competent electrician confirms it can be used safely.

Electrical repairs shaped by your report
The repair package follows the actual observations, test results and site assessment. Depending on the findings, electrical remedial works may include:
Wiring and accessories
Repairing damaged wiring, connections, sockets, switches or isolators, with suitable cable protection and identification where needed.
Earthing and protection
Correcting identified earthing or bonding defects and addressing protective-device or residual current device (RCD) issues, with compatibility and circuit condition checked.
Distribution equipment
Addressing defects in boards, enclosures and associated equipment. A board replacement is considered where the condition and required work justify that scope.
A report code alone is not enough to select parts or price every repair. Unclear circuit references, missing results or further-investigation findings may require a site visit before a fixed remedial quotation.
Supply equipment owned by the network operator or landlord, specialist machinery and hazardous areas need clear responsibilities. Tell us about additional power sources and specialist systems when enquiring.
Agree the work, access and interruption together
Plan repairs around your working site
Plan for a controlled power interruption. Repairs need safe isolation and appropriate checks. Identify production equipment, servers, refrigeration and other critical services so the work window reflects their shutdown and restart needs.

Review the complete report
Share the observations, schedules and test results, plus any photographs already available. Identify previous repairs, immediate safety measures and the person requesting completion evidence.

Agree the package and programme
Confirm included observations, investigation needs, materials, permissions and the site contact. Discuss shutdowns, tenants and specialist-system providers. Phased or out-of-hours work is considered by agreement.

Complete, check and hand back
Carry out the authorised work, inspect and test the affected installation, and communicate its status before handover. Additional findings and outstanding actions remain clearly identified.
If investigation reveals more work, we explain the finding and agree the additional scope. Temporary isolation, investigation and completed repairs remain separately recorded.

A record against the findings
- The report observation, circuit or location addressed.
- What was repaired, investigated or left outstanding.
- Relevant inspection and test results for the completed work.
- Applicable certification and any follow-up recommendation.
For several buildings or visits, retain the site and observation references so your team can track completed and open items.
Certificates matched to the work
An Electrical Installation Certificate covers work such as new circuits or a distribution-board replacement. A Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate may suit smaller alterations that do not introduce a new circuit.
Investigation or maintenance tasks may instead need appropriate test and completion records. We identify the documents relevant to the agreed work.
Keep the original EICR with the subsequent records. Repairing selected circuits does not establish the condition of untouched areas. If a fresh EICR or particular confirmation is required, agree that reporting scope before work starts.

Practical answers before authorising the work
EICR remedial works questions
Can you work from another contractor’s EICR?
Yes. Provide the full report, including its schedules and observations. We review the findings and may need clarification or a site assessment before quoting. The original inspector remains responsible for their report; WB’s records describe the work and verification we undertake.
Does an unsatisfactory EICR mean we need a rewire?
No. The extent of repair depends on the defects and installation condition. Targeted repairs, investigation or a defined upgrade may be appropriate. A recommendation for substantial replacement should have a clear technical basis; age alone does not settle that decision.
Do all C3 observations have to be repaired?
C3 means an improvement is recommended and does not by itself make the assessment unsatisfactory. Consider the recommendation in the context of the premises, other planned work and any specific written requirement. We can identify it separately in the quotation.
Will repairs automatically produce a new satisfactory EICR?
The original report remains a dated record. We test the work completed and provide the applicable records. A fresh EICR is a separate inspection scope if needed; it must reflect any remaining defects or limitations. Confirm an insurer or landlord’s required evidence before booking.
Can commercial remedial works be completed in stages?
A phased programme may be suitable where the installation can be managed safely between visits. Immediate danger must be addressed straight away and other urgent findings need prompt attention. Some equipment may need to remain out of use while repairs are pending.

Mention your report or photographs in the enquiry; the office will confirm how to share them. If you only have a summary, tell us. Do not open electrical covers to obtain information.
What affects EICR remedial cost?
The nature and number of defects, investigation needs, materials, access, working hours and testing requirements affect cost. A list of codes without the observations rarely defines the whole repair package.
